The Life and Times of the Past Week

Things I've done since my last post:
1. Been to the Natural History Museum: Way too many dead stuffed animals for one building, but still- what an incredible building it is!
2. Gone to a 9-story aquarium filled with strange and beautiful sea creatures. On the top floor was an art gallery opening (free food and wine!) and a rooftop view of downtown Vienna.
3. LOTS of Sauna Club meetings
4. Made best friends with some Kebap guys down the street who make some pretty sick falafel. Brought my camera in there the other day and they nearly lost their minds, they were so excited to give us photo opportunities. Jess and I both cut some Kebap meat (greasy and smelly and gross) and got a little too close for comfort with Billa and Taiwan. I don't think those are actually their names but that's what it sounded like...
5. Went to Budapest: FLEA MARKETS EVERYWHERE

  1. Ew - kebap meat... I'd be more afraid of getting to close to that meat concoction than Billa and Taiwan! But keep up the free falafel hook-up though! xoxox

  2. It's KABOBS - not kebaps - for Pete's sake!! You had me thinking "kebap" was some kind of Austrian delicacy!

  5. From wikipedia: Kebap (or kebab) simply means "roasted," and usually refers to lamb roasted in some form, but may refer to chicken—or even (roasted) chestnuts—as well.

The most familiar Turkish kebap is shish kebap: chunks of lamb roasted on a skewer.

Döner Kebap is lamb roasted on a vertical spit and sliced off when done. When laid on a bed of chopped flat bread and topped with savory tomato sauce and brown butter, it becomes Iskender (or Bursa) Kebap.
